After rescuing two people and retrieving two dead bodies from the Lagos Lagoon, the Nigerian Police has again rescued another man attempting to end his own life.
The Security operatives, on Sunday, March 27, reportedly rescued an elderly man who was about to plunge into the Lagos lagoon to end his sorrows.
This is the third person to be rescued from jumping into the lagoon in the last one week, two other dead bodies, including that of Doctor Allwell Orji, who jumped in on Sunday, March 19, were recovered.
According to the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, last week lamented the rate at which people commit suicide in the country, describing it as worrisome.
He said the police has begun patrol of bridges across the state to forestall other cases of suicide.
He added that it was now an offence for individuals to walk on bridges in the state and no vehicle would be allowed to stop on any bridge in the state henceforth in order to prevent suicide attempts.
