The accused person pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Taiwo Oladiran, said the court lack jurisdiction to try the matter.

Enugu pastor allegedly marries mother, daughter

A pastor, Mr Timothy Ngwu, was on Monday docked at an Enugu North Magistrates’ Court for allegedly marrying another man’s wife, daughter as well as another woman.
Veronica Ngwu, the pastor’s wife was said to have petitioned the court over the development.

The victims whom Ngwu converted to his “wives’’ were said to be members of his church: Gods’ Favor Ministry, Nsukka.

One of the victims, Mrs Calista Omeye, however, told the court that her husband, Mr Fidelis Omeye, had persuaded her to meet the pastor as he wanted her to do the will of God through the pastor.

“My husband was a member of the church and he introduced me to the church, because he said that the pastor had a revelation for me (Calista).
She said the revelation had to do the will of God but he later left the church but I refused to leave the church with him.
“I have 10 children for him and we were all members of the church before he quitted and I had a baby for the pastor but the baby died after some weeks,” she told the court.

She said that it was with her husband’s consent that their daughter was given to the pastor in marriage.

“It is not true that I gave out our daughter in marriage to the pastor without the consent from my husband, he was aware of everything,” she said.
The pastor who hailed from Ihe-Owerre, Nsukka, was absent from the court as he was said to be on admission at an hospital in Enugu.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs R.I. Oruruo, adjourned hearing in the matter to Sept. 26.
In another development, the magistrate sentenced 17 youths from Amuzam-Ugwuaji in Enugu North Local Government Area to three weeks’ imprison for conspiracy and unlawful assembly.
The accused persons were in 2013 arraigned for malicious damage of a building under construction belonging to one Mr Charles Maduekwe, at Independence Layout, Enugu.
The complainant had told court that he invested over N20million on the project before the incident occurred.

Maduekwe said that he invited some military men to arrest the accused person who later handed them over to the police.
He said that the military men recovered harmers and other dangerous weapons used by the accused persons to perpetuate the crime.
Meanwhile, the President General of the town, Mr Emmanuel Nwafor, said that the disputed land belonged to the community.

No external body had ever claimed the land or bought it from the community, Nwafor said.
He alleged that the youths were waiting for the elders to allocate the land before the military arrived and whisked them away.
“We did not destroy any pillar or building as the land was covered by weeds. We only went there to share the land.

“It was when they refused to leave the land that some military men arrested them,” he said.
Ruling on the matter, Oruruo said that the evidence before the court showed that there was a conspiracy among the accused persons to commit a crime and unlawful assembly to breach public peace.

She, therefore, sentenced the accused persons to three weeks imprisonment each, with a N10, 000 option of fine. (NAN)

You’re a Governor, not cleric – PDP blasts ‘hypocritical’ Lalong over weekly prayer

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has accused Governor Simon Lalong of abandoning his constitutional duties and taking up a new role as a religious leader.

PDP said this in reaction to a directive by the governor, declaring every Friday of the week for prayer and fasting in government offices.

A statement on Monday by state publicity secretary, John Akans, noted that “The governor is sending wrong signals. He has abandoned his constitutional duties, and he is now taking up new roles as pastor/imam of Plateau He is introducing religious worship in government offices to divert our people’s attention from his lack of vision and failures in administering the state, to worship in government offices.

“This is hypocrisy; the governor should be godly by leading by example especially in areas of transparency and accountability; and there will be good governance from where Plateau will develop.”

“He should not declare official sessions for prayers and fasting in government offices; instead, he should lead by utilizing the funds accruing to the state from various sources including the federal accounts, internal revenue base, and grants to meet the development aspirations of God’s children in Plateau,” he added

Woman dumped by wealthy husband after she lost her breast to cancer storms venue of his wedding to younger woman

On Saturday, August 20, a wealthy elderly real estate manager John Njuguna Ng’ang’a and his young new wife Anne Wairimu were celebrating their wedding at her Ruiru home when the man's first wife Jane Njeri Njuguna, armed with a court injunction, stormed the scene accompanied by the Officer Commanding Ruiru Police Station. (Pictured: John at Ruiru Police Station. Inset: Jane Njeri and John during their wedding)

While the two women engaged in a scuffle, the old man was whisked off to Ruiru Police Station where he spent the night. According to Njeri, her husband opted for a second wife because one of her breasts was surgically removed due to cancer and that at one time, he even insulted her that she no longer has anything special for him.

"He has a right to marry even 10 wives, but what I want is the property I acquired with him. It is painful to see another woman enjoying my sweat after I have endured a lot of ridicule," said Njeri

Another relative who declined to be named said, "We were shocked and ashamed when our mum revealed how Njuguna insulted her that she is useless now that she has nothing on her chest for enjoyment."

Njuguna refused to speak to Sahara Tribune at the police station, instead he just laughed off the matter. Njeri claims she was shocked to learn that Njuguna had found a younger woman to marry just days to the secret wedding, forcing her to seek intervention from the courts.

"When the order was delivered at the woman’s house where the wedding was supposed to be held, he was not around, but he later signed it," a close relative told The Nairobian. "We thought he would obey the order, only for word to reach us that the wedding was going on. Luckily, we arrived in time and saved the situation."

Njeri, a mother of six, says she met Njuguna in college in Machakos and that their love blossomed in Kakamega where he was posted as a clinical officer and where she worked briefly as a nurse. The two tied the knot at a church wedding in Thika following her transfer from Kakamega.

"I decided to quit the government after we got married. We opened our own clinic to allow us to settle down and raise a family like anyone else,"

With money rolling in, the couple lived on the fast lane, raising their children and investing in plots and other businesses until misfortune struck in 2004.

"I realised I had a lump in my right breast and upon further investigation, it was confirmed that I had breast cancer,” Njeri said, adding that she opted for a mastectomy to save her life.

Njuguna was initially supportive, Njeri admitted and when he was attacked by thugs who seriously injured his limbs and left him confined to wheelchair for three years, she took care of him until he healed. Things started falling apart when in 2012, Njuguna teamed up with a close relative who works in real estate and deals in houses of high-profile figures in government and with time rose to the position of a manager of the company.

"Around 2013 and 2014, he started changing and would even step away from me whenever he received a phone call. Things moved from bad to worse when, in August 2015, he came home and found me in bed. I remember he insulted me about my body and kicked me out of the house saying his home was not a hospital ward and I ought to find one," said Njeri.

Fearing for her life, Njeri says she left for her parents’ home where she opened a small business to sustain her life before Njuguna’s brother intervened and brought her back home.

"I returned to my matrimonial home briefly but fled when he arrived in a foul mood and attempted to attack me,” she claimed.

Stephen Keshi's son expresses disappointment over FG's unfulfilled promises to honor his father

Stephen Keshi Junior, son of former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, took to his IG page yesterday to express his disappointment at the Federal government's unfulfilled promises to honor his father at his father's funeral rites which kicked off in Benin city Edo state yesterday July 28th. He wrote:
"I sat in front of the federal government on national television a few weeks ago and they promised they would honor pops the way he deserves. They said that he has done too much for the country for them not to. They made us change dates to fit the federal governments schedule. But they didn't do as promised, we aren't mad, nor sad, just disappointed, they should be ashamed of themselves.
This sends a terrible message to our youth that are striving to do great things for Nigeria. The good thing is that We was raised not to ask for handouts. There will be no more postponements, today the funeral ceremonies began in Benin, the place he loved, where his career started. My sisters, brother and I held it down, with the help of a few others, and now we are putting our pops to rest. We don't owe anyone shit and we can say they owe pops everything. No salt, it is not the people's fault, we still love Nigeria as pops did" he said

Domestic Abuse: Man Seeks Justice For Sister 'Assaulted' By Indian Employer

iIndian man brutalized Nigerian employee
A man, who claimed his younger sister, Faith Nwaneri, was allegedly assaulted by her Indian employer in Lagos, has cried out for justice.
The man, Ignatius Chukwuka, alleged that the Indian, Jay Keswani, one of the Aswani Brothers, hit his sister with a briefcase on August 12 at his Benefista Tower, Banana Island residence and she fainted.
Chukwuka said his sister was Personal Assistant (PA) to the Indian’s wife and worked Fridays to Wednesday, with Thursdays being observed as her day off.
He said Nwaneri was delayed at the gate that morning because she didn’t have the gate pass and had begged her way through in the last eight months, since her employers were yet to provide one for her.
Chukwuka claimed that when she eventually got into the residence, the man’s wife queried her for coming late and she explained that she was delayed at the gate for lack of pass.
Angered by her explanation, the woman was said to have confronted her husband, who then asked the young lady to give him the form he gave her to fill to commence the process.
Afraid that the Indian will tear the form like he usually did and fire her, Nwaneri, according to her brother, lied to him that she has submitted it, adding that she was just waiting for him to give her the money to process it.
“But when he insisted that he would follow my sister to the gate to collect the form at all cost, my sister seeing the anger in him quickly told him that she was still with the form and was waiting for him to give her the money so she could submit it for processing.
“He got furious that she lied to him and hit her with his briefcase. My sister fainted. At first, he thought it was a joke and hit her with his leg but when he pulled her over and noticed pool of blood, he quickly called his wife and they started pouring water on her head.
“At last, they revived her, left her at their apartment on the 19th Floor and they left for the office. After my sister regained consciousness, she struggled through the back staircase to the basement, where a Good Samaritan, helped her to Falomo Police Station, from there she was referred to Falomo Hospital, for treatment. There, my sister called me to come over and I paid the bills, then I took her home.
“When I contacted Mr Jay Keswani, to find out what would make an elderly man like him hit a lady, young enough to be his daughter and got her injured, he (Keswani ) claimed it’s an accident.
“The police at Falomo tried to invite him, but were refused entry into the island to serve him a letter of invitation. Security men at the tower claimed they were acting on instructions not to collect the invitation letter from the policeman who came to deliver the letter.
“The security men there at Benefista Tower also told us that they will do everything to silent the case, as they claimed it’s their responsibility to protect their clients as assigned. Since then, Keswani has been walking freely with no action taken against him.
“All efforts to reach him to resolve this matter by our lawyer proved abortive, as he has bluntly refused to comply.
“My question is what will prompt Keswani to hit a woman like that and claim it was an accident? If she had died in his apartment, perhaps, Keswani would have covered up this case, and had my sister thrown into the lagoon.
“Our lawyer wrote him for settlement and payment of compensation within seven days which ended yesterday (Saturday), but till now, there’s no response from him. It shows that this man has no regards for rule of law and Nigerian citizens,” he said.

Group condemns Fulani herdsmen attacks on Igbo land

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has condemned the brazen murder and killing of innocent citizens in some South-East communities by suspected herdsmen.

The Chairman of CLO in the South East, Mr Aloysius Attah, said in a statement that the killings were “pure acts of barbarism and terrorism against the people.

“This latest incident at Attakwu community in Enugu State after the shock of the Nimbo, Uzo Uwani killings is callous, provocative, wicked and premeditated.

“It smacks of a clear intent to decimate a particular ethnic group even in their own fatherland.
“It is quite painful and disheartening that a seminarian who will have played critical roles in drawing souls to God on his ordination should be mowed down in such grueling circumstances.
“No one knows their next target because as it stands now, various communities in Enugu State and other parts of the South East have become endangered species,’’ the statement said.

The statement urged security agencies to rise up to the occasion through intelligence gathering rather than engaging in reactionary and after effect fire brigade approach.

“We urge the Enugu State Government to immediately summon all the traditional rulers and presidents-general of communities to ascertain the actual number of communities illegally harbouring herdsmen in any form.
“The government should have a record of the herdsmen in the various communities,’’ the statement said.
It commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callistus Onaga, for their prompt and timely visit to the scene of the latest incident.
However, the CLO called on governors of the South East to sponsor bills in their various houses of assembly to criminalise indiscriminate grazing as a check against infiltration by insurgents disguised as herdsmen.
The CLO expressed concern with the Federal Government’s inertia at halting the ugly development.

Ondo APC primary: Politicians are kidnapping delegates – Governorship aspirant alleges

An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Mr. Segun Abraham at the weekend alleged that other contestants for the party’s ticket have been kidnapping delegates ahead of this Saturday’s primary election.

Abraham is reportedly being backed by the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.

Since the announcement of his endorsement, the party in the state has been enmeshed in crisis as 23 other aspirants and majority of the party leaders are against his choice.

While featuring on a live programme of a private radio station in Akure, Ondo State, Abraham said aspirants who knew that they would lose the primary election invited some delegates to a meeting but later held them hostage.
“These delegates who never knew the intention of the desperate aspirants went for the meeting but only to be confined and never allowed to go home”, he said.
Apparently referring to the comments of another aspirant, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu against the National Leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, Abraham described his comment as unfortunate and an ungrateful act.

Akeredolu had in a live radio programme, stated that it was not Tinubu that made him the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate in 2012 and that Tinubu had lost his national leadership of the party by endorsing an aspirant ahead of the forthcoming APC primary.

Abraham described the statement as an act of disrespect to one’s helper, highlighting all that Tinubu did for Akeredolu.
“Without our National Leader, President Buhammadu Buhari would not have won the ticket of the APC in 2015 and he would not have become the president of Nigeria.
“The National Leader was being accused of imposing me, I was not imposed. Endorsement is different from imposition. Those who regarded the two as the same do not know what they were saying.

“The National Leader only said I am a preferred aspirant that can deliver the state for APC in the coming election.
“There is still going to be primary election and delegates know who they are going to vote for and who can win election for the APC.
“I have met the delegates and they have assured me that they are for me. If we hold the primary election today, I shall have nothing less than 85 per cent of their votes”, he said.
Abraham, who said he used all he could for the ANC candidate in 2012 election, said he expected that he would enjoy the same treatment from other aspirants now that he had been endorsed.

He advised the delegates to be careful of empty promises to avoid being disappointed.

But reacting to the development, Freeze, who joined the radio station in 2001, claims that his alleged retrenchment has nothing to do with the reason making the rounds.
Freeze, who has since deleted the post on his Instagram page, wrote: “I never address or dispel rumors but this is the height of it! @instablog9ja and www.misspetitenaijablog.com have both carried all sorts of slanderous stories about me in the past, without confirmation, before posting their outrageous garbage.
“But this, trust me, would be their last! If this defamatory and slanderous post is not taken down immediately, and an unreserved apology offered, via the same medium within 24 hrs, I will be forced to take legal action against both blogs.

“Yes, there are issues stemming from a meeting over presenters’ fees yesterday, details of which I choose not to discuss, because of the respect I have for Mr Moussalli and his family, but trust me, it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Basket mouth or social media,” the controversial OAP stated.

There are wayward women everywhere, not only in Nollywood – Actress, Lola Faduri

Popular Yoruba movie actress, Lola Faduri, fondly called Adetoun L’America, has reacted to the perception of many that most actresses are wayward.

The medical doctor cum actress said there are wayward people everywhere, not only in Nollywood.

In a chat with the Nation, Faduri said “Well, I don’t know about that. There’s no industry that does not have wayward people as you mentioned, so it’s not only in our industry. It happens everywhere and in every career but just because we are role models, people tend to think there should be perfection in Nollywood.

“I do not see or know any wayward colleague but if some of them are actually wayward, then it’s very bad.”
On perceptions that most actresses get married late and end up divorced, allegedly, due to their wayward attitude, the ‘Ayamo’ thespian said, “Some people marry late for reasons best known to them, not because of waywardness. Actually, there are two sides to it.
“Some men are reluctant to marrying female actors because of the fame and they think they cannot control them; this could lead to female actors marrying late.

“On the other side most men that eventually marry them for the stardom part and not real love which eventually leads to divorce in no time except the very few God-fearing men.

“Yes, I could start mentioning happily married female actors that don’t have any problem in their marriages. There is a lot of us,” Faduri added

I didn’t suddenly decide to be a woman, my brain has always been female – Transgender, Miss Sahhara

Popular Nigerian transgender, born Clifford Oche, popularly known as Miss SaHHara, has said it is not true that she decided to be a woman overnight.

She said she has always been a woman and would have killed herself if she hadn’t moved to the United Kingdom.

The Benue state-born London-based transgender, speaking with NostringsNG – Voice of LGBT Nigeria, said “Being a woman and living in your true gender is not a lifestyle.“There was no time of epiphany, it’s like someone asking you when you decided to be male or female, am sure your answer will be, since you were born.

“So I have always known that I am female, my brain has always been female.
“Moving to the United Kingdom was my redemption, it was either staying in Nigeria, continue being bullied, harassed, beaten up, and succeed in killing myself, or moving away to a more open minded society to leave my dreams to my fullest potentials, so I took the latter,” the model and Trans right activist stated.

I will be a ‘god’ soon – Ghanaian pastor, Daniel Obinim

Controversial Ghanaian pastor and founder of International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has declared he will be a god soon.

Obinim explained how he got ‘spiritual gifts’ from God and how he may soon be promoted from being an angel to becoming god.

Recall that the pastor, who caused a stir on the social media for flogging a pregnant teenage member of his church, recently made news headlines after he was arrested over suspicions of fraud Speaking with Joy FM, Obinim said “I saw Jesus Christ in my dreams, who said: ‘Collect this angelic gift.’
“So, if I’m faithful to Jesus Christ, maybe the next spiritual gift He will confer on me will be a replica of what happened in Exodus Chapter 7 in the Bible where God told Moses: ‘Now I’ve made you god, so whatever you say is final.

“But now God has not made me God. Maybe the next time God will say: ‘Obinim, now I’ve made you a god, you can even conjure up money.”
Speaking further, the controversial pastor said, “I have more than 20 houses given to me by Jesus Christ. I had about eight Range Rover cars which I gifted to my pastors. I had five Infinity SUVs and three Chryslers which I also gifted to my pastors because my car is ‘AUTOBIOGRAPHY’, meaning the car’s brain power is superior to that of a human being.
“If you cross that car, it stops automatically, and its door is not slammed, it shuts by itself. It is also bulletproof,” he bragged

Bishop Daniel Obinim arrested over GH¢11.6 million fraud case and led away in handcuffs (photos)

Controversial founder of the International God's Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim was escorted in handcuffs and transferred to the Accra Police Headquarters after he reported himself to Tema Regional police station earlier today.

The 'Angel of God' had responded to invitation following complaints made to the police after he publicly flogged two teenage members of his church for alleged fornication and attempted abortion.

The police had given him 24 hour ultimatum to honour their invitation or they will be forced to take action against him.

A video of the man of God flogging the two with a belt went viral on social media recently, drawing widespread criticism but the Bishop defended the action insisting they deserved it for engaging in fornication and attempting an abortion.

However, there is a twist...according to Ghana media, the controversial Preacher is also being interrogated over a GH¢11.6 million fraud case. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) PRO, ASP Joseph Darkwa, said a complainant came to the Tema Police some few weeks ago to report that he gave an amount of GH¢780,000 to Okomfo Gyapata of Mampong Nkwanta near Koforidua in the Eastern Region to do a spiritual ritual to bless the money.

"According to the complainant, after some time, he realised that the Okomfo was not able to help him neither was he able to give him back his money, so he came to Bishop Obinim to report the matter so the Bishop would help him retrieve the money and do the rituals to bless the money for him," he said.

ASP Darkwa said it was based on that that Bishop Obinim asked him to bring the rest of the gold money which amounted to GH¢11.6 million belonging to the family.
The complaint told the police since he gave the money to the Bishop, he has not been able to do what he was expected to do neither was he given his money.

The complainant said he gave the money to Okomfo Gyapata on November 28, 2015, but the money he gave to Bishop Obinim was in June this year.

The CID PRO told Joy News' Dzifa Bampoh on Newsnite that the complainant has not lodged a complaint against Okomfo Gyapata as yet but if it becomes necessary that they have to involve him they would do so.

"We have just commerce investigation into this issue, when we finish we will hand him over to Domestic Violence Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) to investigate the domestic violence issue," ASP Darkwa said.

The congression waiting for him to lead service at the Tema Community 9 branch were disappointed as the junior pastors throng the police station and they registered their disappointment upon seeing him handcuffed into a police car to be transferred to Accra, Joy News reports.

Mikel John Obi hopes ‘magical’ Nigeria Olympic bronze medal won’t make Chelsea team-mates jealous

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi says he hopes that the Bronze medal won by Nigeria at Rio 2016 doesn't make his Chelsea teammates jealous seeing that none of them won anything at the Olympics.
"When I woke up in my hotel room on Sunday morning, I opened my eyes to see my Olympic bronze medal lying there beside me.' he said speaking to UK Standard. 'It just hammered home to me what I had achieved with the rest of my Nigeria team-mates the day before.'
'We beat Honduras 3-2 to get the bronze and secure Nigeria's first Olympics medal in any sport since 2008.
'All of us went into the game knowing this and it put extra pressure on the squad to perform.
'This experience has given me the hunger to do it again at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. I will be only 33 then and my game will still be at a high level.'

'I enjoyed every minute of being in Brazil and I have been talking to the other guys about playing in another Olympics. I'm already looking forward to it and the countdown is on!
'I might take the medal to the Chelsea training ground to show to the other players - I hope I don't make them jealous though!
It's also provided me with a nice lift as I return to Chelsea. I will go back to see the manager [Antonio Conte] and see what his plans are for me.'

'I want to get back into training and prove myself. I want to play and help the team to win games.'

'I know it will be difficult because I have missed most of pre-season and the coach has a new way of playing.
But it is a positive thing for me that I have been playing well out here in Brazil and I'm in good shape.'
I will need a few days off first because this tournament has been so draining. I arrive back in London on Wednesday morning and the game against Burnley on Saturday will come too early to feature in.'

'The plan is to have a little break, which is why the timing couldn't be better as the season stops for two weeks for international fixtures after the Burnley game anyway.'

'It will give me plenty of time to enjoy my bronze medal and reflect on what has been a magical few weeks in my football career.'
