Elderly woman, 92, declared dead wakes up inside freezing mortuary

Prosecutors in Germany have charged a doctor with negligent bodily harm after he mistook a woman for dead.

The 92-year-old woman who had been declared dead suddenly woke up screaming inside a freezing mortuary.

The 53-year-old doctor pronounced the seriously ill woman dead in March after a worker found her without a pulse and not breathing at a retirement home.
Her body was taken to the Munstermann funeral parlour in Berlin where it was placed in a refrigerated room. But just hours later a worker at the funeral home heard shrieks coming from inside the room.

When staff went to investigate they pulled the body out of the refrigerator and found the woman alive. According to local news reports, the stunned employee fainted when he unzipped the mortuary bag and found the woman staring back.

Tragically the woman died two days later in hospital from heart disease unrelated to the incident. The doctor is due to appear in Gelsenkirchen Magistrates’ Court to face charges of negligence.
Last November in Poland a 91-year-old woman woke up inside a cold locker at a funeral home 11 hours after being declared dead. Staff were astonished when her body bag started moving while it was in storage.

Cameroonian President blames Jonathan for Boko Haram’s audacity

From President Muhammadu Buhari’s two-day visit to Cameroon to discuss issues relating to the war against the Boko Haram insurgency came allegations that former president, Goodluck Jonathan, by his inaction contributed to the festering of Boko Haram insurgency.

Quoting a credible presidency source, Daily Sun reports that it was revealed at the presidential visit which ended yesterday that Jonathan did not do much in the war against insurgency in the course of Buhari’s interaction with President Paul Biya of Cameroon.

While the immediate past president was accused of not forming a strong bond with leaders of neighbouring African countries who were also battling the same insurgency, he was also accused of not responding and returning phone calls meant to discuss ways of combining efforts to confront the terrorists.

The foregoing, it was stated, contributed in no small measure to the disjointed relationship between Nigeria and Niger, Chad and Cameroon in the fight against the Boko Haram group that was growing in size and might.

In the words of the presidency official, “The major complaint, according to Biya, is that Jonathan never or seldom, at best, picked his calls. He said most times he called Jonathan neither picked nor returned his calls. And as a result, the integration of efforts that should have stopped Boko Haram’s foray and unchallenged run was lacking.”

Biya, who was quoted as warning, that a solo fight against the terrorist group could not have been effective, stressed that “This solo handling of the problem did not enable the neighbours put in much to solve the problem until it got this bad”.

$9.3b not $6b was stolen by Jonathan’s minister – Duke Abiola

Just as the dust raised by the statement credited to Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole over the $6 billion dollars allegedly stolen by a former minister in the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Another prominent Nigerian, Queen Zainab Duke-Abiola, the Akasoba of Kalabari land in the Niger Delta, has said she had evidence from the White House that a former Petroleum Minister stole $9.3 billion.

Duke Abiola, one of the wives of the late Chief MKO Abiola, in an exclusive interview with The Nation, said: “According to the information available to us, the minister stole more than $9 billion; not Australian dollars, but US dollars.”

“And what I am saying is that the money should be used to develop the Niger Delta. Use this to help the impoverished Niger Deltans,” she added.

On her ability to prove the allegation, she said she was in Washington DC during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit, and that she met with White House officials who revealed the information to her.

“My relationship with White House is over 30 years. Americans are very eager to make sure that the money gets back. They want Nigeria to use that money for education,” she said.

The former presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party also insisted that Buhari’s delegation to Washington DC was aware of the exact amount stolen by the former minister.
“Oshiomhole said it’s about $6 billion. Information available to me states that the minister and her associates siphoned away $9.3 billion. I’m watching the game that they’re playing. If they don’t publish the evidence, I have document to support this,” she said.

According to her, members of the presidential delegation were focusing on the $6 billion allegedly stolen by a minister in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet, leaving out “the remaining $3.3 billion” because some people from a section of the country are involved.
“If Buhari is not sure of his fact and figures, he should go back to Washington DC. If I read in the papers that they say $9 billion, I would keep quiet. But why are they saying only $6 billion?”
“All I want is that this money should be used to help the less privileged, especially in the Niger Delta. Give these people fishing nets. Build some bridges for them. Clean up their rivers so they can fish once more, so they can have food on their tables once more. Build cottage industries for them. Put up little clinics as much as you can. In fact, we’re talking about $9.3 billion, so build a John Hopkins hospital. Build a UCH replica in the Niger Delta. If there’s some extra money use it to help other regions,” she said.

The Akasoba said she was shocked when she received the evidence from the White House.
“Some people said that much money couldn’t have been stolen, I was one of those who didn’t believe. When they gave me the document, I was shocked. I have sent it to the appropriate Niger Delta elders. So, we know that nobody is accusing anybody wrongly,” she said.
It will be recalled that Governor Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday, alleged that a minister, who served under the former President stole $6 billion, quoting US officials to support his claim but did not name the particular minister.

“The man said even by Washington standard, that is earth-quaking.
“So, PDP is a party that presided over the liquidation of our nation; destroyed all our institutions; converted the Armed Forces commanders to use them as if they were political thugs; convertedNTA to a party megaphone; destroyed the SSS; went after opposition as if we were rabbits to be pursued into our holes; compromised even student unions and destroyed everything that you can think of; and elevated religion to a state affair.

“Under the party, Israel became a place you visit every week; they placed pastors against mallams, placed North against South, East against West – just to retain power; elevated Obas and Obis with dollars,” Oshiomhole said.

“Because Of Just 4 Months Of Unpaid Salaries You Won’t Work?” Rochas Okorocha Threatens Sack As He Tells Imo Workers

Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has ordered the striking civil servants to resume work immediately or risk being summarily sacked.

The Governor read the rio act while addressing some youths, who paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Owerri.
While accusing the workers of reneging on the recent agreement it freely entered with the state government, Governor Okorocha also described the current strike as “illegal and would not be tolerated next time”.

It was the considered opinion of the Governor that “the strike was politically motivated and principally aimed at rubbishing the good reputation of his administration”.

He wondered why civil servants should embark on strike “because of just months of unpaid salaries” owed by his administration.
Okorocha was particularly irked that no other state went on strike over non-payment of salaries, considering the economic meltdown facing the country.

“I do not know of any other state whose workers went on strike as a result of unpaid salaries. Imo workers treated me unjustly by embarking on the current industrial action”, Okorocha said.
Explaining why he took the decision to sack the striking workers if they fail to resume, the Governor said a lot of youths in the state are in need of employment.

Meanwhile, labour leaders in the state have advised civil servants to ignore the threat issued by the Governor, stressing that labour may completely shut down the state if government fail to pay their unpaid salaries.

Labour also ordered pensioners not to appear before any verification team set up by the state government, stressing this verification had been conducted several times by the present administration, without paying the pensions.

After O-YES, O-MEAL and others, Aregbesola has added ‘O-DEBT’ – Odumakin

The National Publicity Secretary of pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, on Thursday lambasted Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola for throwing the state into financial crisis.

The spokesman said the governor formulated all kinds of policies that were now affecting the state negatively.
He told Daily Independent that having launched O, REAP, O-YES, O-MEAL, Opon-Imo and other policies, Aregbesola had plunged the state into ‘O-DEBT’

Odumakin, who was one of the conveners of ‘Osun Summit’, organized by concerned stakeholders in Osun, recalled that the summit was chaired by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Justice Olu Adekeye and attended by political parties, religious bodies and various civil society organizations.
Odumakin said, “The summit rose and decided that we should invite the EFCC and ICPC to come and look into Osun finances, and very soon we are sending a request to these two bodies to come and check Osun’s books in the last five years.
“As at now, the APC is jittery because they have mismanaged the state under Aregbesola. They have ‘bankrupted’ the state”.
“Osun finances was not this good under Bisi Akande as governor, yet he managed it well without running the state into bankruptcy. He even built a massive state secretariat.

Oyinlola, who took over from Akande also did his own part without running the state into financial mess. But under Aregbesola, Osun has become totally bankrupt and in a state of insolvency”.
He said contrary to the impression being created in some quarters that the governor was replicating most of the projects in Lagos in Osun, “it is not projects that the governor is replicating in Osun, it is the Lagos lifestyle that he has taken to Osun State. Whereas Lagos economy can afford this lifestyle, Osun cannot.

“What is the governor doing with two helicopters? Ondo state that is an oil producing state does not have a helicopter. Ekiti, Ogun and even Oyo do not have helicopters.
“At a point, the governor was chartering flights from Lagos to Ibadan before he bought the helicopters”.

“He created all kinds of ‘Os’ in the state, Opon- Imo, O-YES, O-REAP, O-MEAL, O-QUIP. The end result of all that today in Osun is O-DEBT or O-GBESE as people are saying.
“What many people don’t know is that the water loan Bola Ige took in 1981 in old Oyo state for water projects, Osun is still paying its own part today. So, what it means is that with all the debts Aregbesola is generating for us now, our grandchildren will pay”, he said.

I headed a military that lacked equipment- ex Chief of Defence staff, Badeh says

At his handing over ceremony yesterday, former Chief of Defense staff Alex Badeh said he led a military that lacked equipment. Now read what he said about the military when he was still in office in January 2015. He said this in an interview with Nigerian Defence Magazine
“The Nigerian military is very well taken care off. We live in houses we don’t pay accommodation for. We have buses that bring troops to work every day and take them back home. We don’t pay for light; we don’t pay for water. Our salaries are good compared with what is paid in the civil place. If someone with school certificate joins the army, by the time he is five years in the service, his salary has doubled that of a graduate. Why do you think Nigeria is doing that for us?
Nigeria is doing that for us because we have vowed that we will defend our nation if need be with our blood. So for a soldier to come up and say ‘I’m not well equipped’ yet you have a riffle; what do you want? You want APC, you want tanks? The basic weapon of an infantry man is riffle, so why should there be mutiny? Why should you accuse your commander of leading you into an ambush? Come on! How can your commander lead you to an ambush? If they kill my soldiers, then of what use will I be? No commander will do that deliberately.
This is the time for Caesar, all the time has been for God, all the time we have been taking salaries, we go and do exercise saying we I do this, I will do that; I will fly like this ad fly like that. All those ones you are preparing for, the day Caesar will come and demand for his pound of flesh, and Caesar has come now and he is saying, look come and do your work, and you are saying you are not going? No, it does not work like that.”he said

Man butchers friend in Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested one Steven Onowa for allegedly murdering his friend, a middle aged barber, Daniel Bassey Solomon, around Itu Road, Uyo, the state capital.

Onowa, a graduate of Federal Polytechnic Oko, in Anambra State, was said to have murdered the deceased, who was his worker and employee, yesterday for refusing to account for the sum of N750, 000.

Following the act, the suspect was said to have attempted to escape but was apprehended with the aid of a GSM tracking device employed by men of the Police Force.

Reacting to the murder of the barber, an indigene of Uruan Local Government Area of the state, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Gabriel Achong, stated that Onowa, upon his arrest, confessed to the crime, saying he invited the deceased over to his house and offered him a poisioned drink.
Achong quoted the suspect as saying, “At about 3.00 a.m, I decided to kill him.
“I gave him the first cut, the guy got up; I gave him a second one and he died and I butchered him to parts,” the suspect confessed.
The police boss noted that there has been a quarrel between the two persons for the past two years, adding that their case file was still with the SARS department of the command.

He further added that the culprit was arrested through the assistance of his landlord who kept contacting him on phone, while the police kept tracking the calls.
The CP said, “After stabbing him to death, he used matchet to chop off his hands, head and two legs. He packed the parts in a sack, pulled it out of the house to the major street of Itu Road.”

While confessing to the crime, the suspect said he had called his victim to meet him in his house where he drugged the deceased Orijin beer.

Reacting to questions from journalists, the culprit said he killed the deceased because he dared to raise his voice at him over his N750,000 which he refused to account for.

“We reported the matter to SARS about two years ago and he agreed on a time frame to pay up the N750,000. Till today, he has refused to pay the money. So when I invited him to my house that day, he started shouting at and getting angry with me, so I killed him. I am not dealing in body parts. I only cut him to pieces to be able to carry him,” Onowa added

Fake doctor, nurse apprehended for aborting six-month-old pregnancy

A certain Mr. Taiwo Ogunlana, claiming to be a medical doctor and his assistant nurse, Kafayat Oyekola, have today been arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly carrying out an illegal abortion on one Miss Kemi Awoniyi.

The self-acclaimed medical doctor claimed to have graduated from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital School of Nursing in 1983 and have worked as a doctor with the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.

According to reports, he said he was sponsored by the hospital authorities for a Post-Basic Theatre course in 1987 and is presently the proprietor of Amu Medical Clinic registered by the Lagos State Private Hospital Authority, located at 4, Church Street, Dalemo.

“Miss Kemi was brought to me on Monday evening, July 6th to be precise,” Mr. Taiwo said. “It was my nurse, Kafayat who brought her to me,” he noted.

“She has worked with me for about 6 months on internship and all the while, she brings patients to me for abortion which I did successfully, and for every patient she brings, she gets a commission,” he added.

“She told me Kemi had taken some drugs which she said gave her sleepless nights as she had severe abdominal pain for three days.”
“When I examined her, her vagina had a very bad odour due to the protrusion of the foetus which was already dead,” Taiwo added.

“After I treated and cleaned her up, I told her to rest for a while and pay N25, 000 for the treatment before leaving but she said she would have to contact her boyfriend whom I have not met before.”
“She however called her boyfriend while I was there,” he said, “and he asked me to kindly forward my account details to him which I did right away.”
“Sadly, I never got any alert to that effect,” the ‘doctor’ stated. “I treated Kemi before asking her to pay because she was in a very bad state.”
He added that Kemi said she wanted to go home because she was afraid that her father would find out.

“As she stood up, she said she was feeling dizzy and I had to ask her to stay in the hospital. Few minutes later, I realized she was pale so I immediately ordered the nurse to give her two pints of blood and it was in this process we were invaded and summoned for questioning,” he said.
It was gathered that the victim was 6 months pregnant before the abortion was carried out.
Speaking to the court, the nurse said the 31-year-old victim came to her and told her that she was having body pains because of some tablets she used.
“I asked her to come back on Monday which she did and on that day, I realized she smelled awfully.”
“I took her to a doctor in Sango Ota who checked her and discovered that the tablet she took had affected her pregnancy,” the nurse said.
As the story goes, they were both charged to court and charges were leveled against them.

The charge against them reads:
“That you, Taiwo Ogunlana and Kafayat Oyekola, on the 6th day of July 2015 at Oke-odo area of Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully carry out abortion on one Oluwakemi Awoniyi, aged 31 years and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 145 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.”
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Mr. L.A Layeni, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was however adjourned till 31st August, 2015 while further investigations will be carried out to confirm if they are both certified medical practitioners.

World champion bodybuilder and former Marine reveals she's transgender

Janae, who is the all-time world record holder in the 220lb after posting a combined weight of 2,551lbs with squat, bench press, and deadlift, has made a successful career for herself as an author, model and sponsored athlete.

She also served in the US Marine Corps from 1991 to 1995 and was selected for Presidential Security duty under President Bill Clinton. After leaving the marines, Janae, who was at the time known as Matt, attended Ferris State University and now works as a registered pharmacist in the specialty pharmacy division of Walgreens.
Just two months after Caitlyn Jenner made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, a world champion bodybuilder and former Marine has come out as transgender on social media.

Janae Marie Kroc, who was formerly known as Matt 'Kroc' Kroczaleski, announced on her new Instagram page that she is both 'transgender and gender fluid', explaining that she is 'currently still living life in both genders'. The author and model also revealed that she is trying to wait until her three sons are older before moving forward with her transition.
'If I am forced to pick a gender I identify with more it is female,' the 42-year-old said. 'However, this really isn’t about me being a boy or a girl or something in between. This is just about me being me, who I am and who I know myself to be.'
And while some outlets have falsely reported that she has already transitioned, Janae shared another Instagram post on Thursday to separate fact from fiction.
'I am trying to wait until my sons are out of high school before moving forward,' she explained. 'This is one hundred per cent my decision not theirs.'
'My sons encourage me to do whatever I need to do and state that they are totally fine with me transitioning now or at any point I see fit,' she added. 'They are amazing young men and the bond we have is unreal.'

P’Harcourt, Warri refineries commence petroleum production – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC says the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have commenced petroleum production after some in-house engineers conducted a nine-month rehabilitation on both facilities.

The oil corporation announced this in a statement released by its General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Mr Ohi Alegbe yesterday. The statement in part reads
“What this means is that both plants have resumed production of petroleum products. For now, about 60 per cent of its 210,000 barrels per day production capacity is being achieved, but it is projected that it will hit its installed 125,000 barrels per day capacity soon,”
The statement added that the Port Harcourt refinery would eventually hit five million litres of petrol per day, while Warri would contribute 3.5 million litres of petrol.

'Won't be caught' thief Has been caught many times (photos)

The woman who wore a t-shirt with the words “Won't Be Caught” as she stole nearly $1500 worth of merchandise from a Florida beauty supply store is a notorious member of an organized retail theft operation who, it turns out, has been caught dozens of times, records show.

In March, Toccara Marlesha Huff, 33, and an accomplice were recorded by store surveillance cameras as they swiped $1478 in cologne and perfume from a Tampa business, police allege.

Police apprehended Huff in late-May and charged her with two felony counts in connection with the beauty store heist. Huff was released on $4000 bond, but when she failed to show for subsequent court hearings, an arrest warrant was issued for her.

The fugitive, who is on probation, is a convicted felon whose rap sheet includes dozens of arrests over the past 15 years. Huff, seen in the below mug shot array, was released from state prison last November after serving 10 months for felony theft.

According to investigators, Huff and her criminal associates have targeted high-end retailers, where they have boosted expensive clothing, sunglasses, and perfume. They often use lined “booster bags,” which can defeat the detection of theft monitoring devices attached to merchandise.

While Huff remains on the lam, her alleged accomplice in the beauty store theft is being held without bond. Ayanna Palacio (seen above) is jailed on grand theft and probation violation charges, according to court records.
Like Huff, Palacio, 38, is a convicted felon with a lengthy rap sheet. She was released from state prison in 2010 after serving about five years for armed robbery.
